Moonsong Malamute Rescue

Based in Boise, Idaho, Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) also works in its neighboring states of Wyoming, Montana, northern Nevada, and an affiliate in Utah. This rescue is affiliated with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL) and is purely ran by fosters, volunteers, and donations. MMR was established to rescue, rehabilitate, and find forever homes for malamutes who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, surrendered, a stray from a shelter, and in severe cases puppy mills or hoarding cases. I've had many wonderful opportunities to volunteer with MMR. Primarily providing exercise for some of the rescues and the occasional transports.

Since most rescue organizations don't have an established facility to house their rescues that is where foster homes come into play. But foster homes are not always available so rescue organizations, like MMR, utilize boarding and kenneling facilities for a reduced rate or at no cost. It just depends. In these situations, volunteers are needed to spend time with the rescues and help provide exercise for them since exercise is such an integral aspect to the lifestyle of huskies and malamutes.

This is the fun part and they absolutely love it! Walking around the neighborhood and WITH occasional stopS for a drink of water or a nice belly rub. I always left so content being able to spend time with these rescues because they are full of love and affection despite what they've been through. These cutie pies are a couple of rescues that I have worked with and all have been adopted!

Then there are the occasional community events where volunteers can help staff. MMR had a booth at the NorthWest Pet Event back in October. Another volunteer started a fundraiser by making "jazzies' for MMR. Jazzies are cute collar sleeves for any dog. Bow ties for the boys and rosettes for the girls.
