As a volunteer, Jackie walked throughout the rows of kennels at her local shelter when two beautiful eyes of a 9 year old Siberian Husky connected with her. Formerly known as Princess, Taysia Blue was raggedy, scared, and filthy as this was her third time back in the shelter. Her medical evaluation form was marked as PTS (put to sleep) and Jackie felt an overwhelmingly urge to adopt Taysia.
For about the next 5 years, Taysia Blue and her family overcame difficult challenges with medical issues being a big one. Taysia Blue was diagnosed with Megaesophagus (where the muscles of the esophagus fail and cannot propel food or water to the stomach). Although no cure, they discovered effective techniques to manage her feeding routine. Full of love and a zest for life, Taysia Blue was one of many who was given a second chance at life. Unfortunately, there are others who aren't so lucky.
By 2010, Jackie was determined to start a rescue in honor of Taysia Blue to continue the movement of saving huskies and malamutes who are placed in undesirable circumstances. Taysia Blue lived to be almost 15 years old but her legacy continues to inspire Jackie and her rescue.

Taysia Blue Rescue is based out of Omaha, Nebraska with networks that expand into Lincoln and Des Moines, Iowa as well as Kansas City, Missouri and beyond. Like many other rescue organizations, they are fueled by fosters, volunteers and donations.
Ways they are involved throughout their community includes:
- Karma Koffee Rescue Day where the public can stop by for a cup of coffee and meet the coffee dog of the month to learn about Taysia Blue's adoption process as well as how to get involved as a volunteer
- Meet and greets are put on throughout the month in various locations as this is a great way to provide exposure on their available rescues
- Fundraisers, fun runs/walks, and booths

Jackie's story is one for the books as she has given much to help huskies and malamutes in need. So far in 2016, Taysia Blue Rescue has saved 45 huskies and malamutes and the abundance of success stories continues to grow.
With much love,
Amy
